The General Service Department handles maintenance, janitorial, and security issues for City properties. The Department has several divisions with specialized areas.
General Service Administration—This General Services Division handles processing of Work Orders, Invoices, and, Department Accounting, among other administrative tasks.
General Service Maintenance Division—This division has several sub-categories and maintains City properties and building components. The Maintenance Division works first and second shift and provides emergency service 24 hours a day.
General Service Facility Services Division—This division handles various tasks which includes fencing, painting, maintaining park equipment, and a vast array of other maintenance items not listed under the Maintenance Division.
General Service Janitorial Division—The Janitorial Division maintains 49 facilities of almost 1,000,000 square feet of building space throughout Huntsville. The division also works janitorial for 32 parks. The janitorial staff consists of 3 supervisors, 6 full time employees, and 38 part time employees. The janitorial work is provided 7 days per week.
General Service Security Division– The Security Division patrols 68 parks and several facilities. The Security staff also turns on lights for various outdoor events. The Security staff is comprised of 1 Supervisor and 4 Security Officers.
