Geocaching

Welcome to the GIS Geocaching web page. Do you know what geocaching is all about? Well, geocaching is a modern day treasure hunt. It's an exciting new twist on an old game. A treasure (or cache) is hidden and a coordinate is published for the hiding place. Using a GPS device people try to navigate their way to it. Our geocache is an ammo box with the GIS logo on the side. Inside the geocache box is a notebook for people to sign who have found the site and taken a "treasure". Generally you take a treasure and leave something in its place, but at our site we ask that you take a single "treasure" and leave only your signature in our log book.

GPS devices will get you close to the site but you'll still have to search for the exact location. Over several days GIS will publish clues in the form of a poem which describes the exact location of our geocache. The lines in the poem will be read by various people on video tape. The people themselves are clues to the clues. When all the lines of the poem have been read, we will publish the poem with all the video's together and then release the coordinates of the geocache in Longitude and Latitude.

Good luck, have fun, find a treasure and learn about Geography!
