For Immediate Release
June 9, 2014
(Huntsville, AL) - Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle joined the mayors of Alabama's largest cities for a leadership retreat, June 8-9, to talk about issues facing the major municipalities. This is the second time in the past six months the mayors have gathered near Mobile to share challenges and brainstorm solutions.
"Moving Alabama forward requires teamwork, and we need leaders who are willing to work together and focus on the big picture," said Mayor Tommy Battle. "Mayors are on the front lines for their citizens. At the end of the day, we face similar trials in providing infrastructure improvements, jobs and high quality education along with the amenities that make a city unique and a great place to live."
Those attending the retreat with Mayor Battle included Birmingham Mayor William Bell, Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange, Tuscaloosa Mayor Walter Maddox and Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson. Accompanying the mayors were their chiefs of staff or administrators and finance directors. The mayors plan to continue their gatherings several times a year.
