Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle encourages residents to support The Huntsville Times and read online
The Mayor responds to The Huntsville Times decision to limit print editions

(HUNTSVILLE, AL) - Mayor Tommy Battle says The Huntsville Times is facing the same challenges in the changing media landscape as every other major newspaper in the country in trying to create a sustainable product.

"We depend on the Times and all of our media partners to keep us informed, to ensure transparency in government, and to focus on the news that matters in our own backyard," said Mayor Battle. "We need to support the Times during this transition and recognize that the news is not going away, it is just increasing its digital presence."

Mayor Battle says the Times decision to reduce its print edition to three days a week will have unexpected consequences at his home. What will happen to Chip?

"Every day, my dog Chip and I get up at 5 a.m., and Chip goes out and fetches the paper and brings it to me. He sits at my feet while I read and drink my coffee," said Mayor Battle. "This change will require some reconditioning and possibly some doggie treats."
