Huntsville Ranked 4th Most Optimistic City in America

City of Huntsville FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 14, 2012

(Huntsville, AL) - When it comes to confidence - Huntsville is tops! The City has been ranked 4th among America's Most Optimistic Communities in a recent Gallup poll on citizens well-being. About 75 percent of Huntsville residents say our City is getting better as a place to live.

"It's no surprise that the citizens of Huntsville are optimistic," said Mayor Tommy Battle. "We live in this beautiful area, filled with green mountains, parks and rivers, and we have a welcoming City that is both affordable and financially sound, with a strong economy and bright future. We have much to be grateful for."

The Gallup survey results indicate that more than half of Americans are optimistic about the future of the places they live, and those feelings do not appear to be related to the size of a given metro area. Among the 190 U.S. metropolitan statistical areas surveyed, Huntsville ranks 4th, coming in just behind 1st place Provo-Orem, Utah, 2nd place Lafayette, La., and 3rd place Raleigh-Cary, N.C. Gallup's results are published in Atlantic Cities online.

The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index tracks community satisfaction on a daily basis. Atlantic Cities contributor Richard Florida says his research finds that community satisfaction is closely related to the physical beauty of a community as well as economic security, schools, and the ability for and level of social interaction.
