HUNTSVILLE NAMED AMONG TOP 25 PLACES TO RETIRE BY CNN/MONEY.COM

City of Huntsville (Huntsville, AL ) - For the second year in a row, the City of Huntsville has been named as one of the top 25 places to retire in the U.S. by CNN/Money.com. Coming in at #12, Huntsville ranked ahead of Austin, Texas and Marietta, Ga. With more than 37 percent of the population over age 50, Huntsville is lauded for its amenities and low cost of living for retirees.

"This is something we have known for years," said Mayor Tommy Battle. "When we see 100 military generals choose to retire in Huntsville after they have lived all over the world, it says something about the quality of our city and its citizens."

CNN/Money.com praised the "Rocket City" for its 3,200 acres of parks, six public golf courses, three municipal swimming pools, nearly a dozen recreation centers and 175 miles of bike paths. It noted the city's ideal location between the Tennessee River and the Appalachian Mountains as an "ideal base camp for hiking, fishing, boating, and birding in nearby state parks and nature preserves."

Top marks also went toward Huntsville's "healthy serving of restaurants, stores, performing arts, and medical care." And the CNNMoney report noted that the city also has a healthy dose of aerospace and high tech companies that feed the intellectual and economic base along with UAHuntsville's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute that offers dozens of courses geared toward retirees.
