Huntsville City Hall Issues Proclamation for "Ride for Reed" Fundraiser to benefit families in the Huntsville Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Children's Hospital |
Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle has issued a proclamation in support of the first "Ride for Reed" event to be held Saturday, July 23.
"This worthy event recognizes the brief life of Reed Putman by providing much needed support to families during a critically challenging time in their lives," said Mayor Battle. "We encourage everyone with a motorcycle to get out on Saturday and "Ride for Reed."
There is no cost for the Saturday event and participants are asked to make donations. Riders should meet at Tank's Riverchase Used Car Center on Highway 72 East between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Saturday. The "kickstand" begins at 9:15 a.m., and cyclists will ride for two hours before returning to a festive afternoon with food, live bands, door prizes, games for children, and a silent auction.
The "Ride for Reed" event is the creation of Jonathan and Tina Putman, parents of Reed who was born premature and died after 67 days of care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Huntsville Hospital. Grateful to Reed's caregivers, the Putmans want to give back to the unit that so lovingly worked to help their son. The "Ride for Reed" fundraiser will provide meal vouchers for families with children in NICU.
"Every moment with your child is precious, and anything we can do to help families in the hospital is important," said Jonathan Putman.
