"Called Redstone Gateway, it will sprawl over 468 acres of federal land on Rideout Road near the arsenal's busy Gate 9.
Rand Griffin, president and CEO of Corporate Office Properties Trust, the project's lead developer, said he wants construction to start in September. The first buildings could be ready by September 2011 - just as the last of 4,700 high-paying Army jobs are transferred to the arsenal from suburban Washington. Mayor Tommy Battle said Redstone Gateway's 4.6 million square feet of office space - equivalent to 25 Walmart SuperCenters - is crucial to accommodating defense contractors looking to move to Huntsville or expand their presence here. It will also position the Rocket City for the next round of military base closures in 2015, he said."
