Weather Alert

During inclement weather events, the City of Huntsville and the Huntsville-Madison County Emergency Management Agency activate the Emergency Operations Center. Located on the ground floor of the Public Services Building, 320 Fountain Circle, the EOC brings together elected government leaders, law enforcement, emergency responders, and emergency management professionals.

From the EOC, notices will be sent to the public via the City Alert system, local media, and City of Huntsville social media.


CITY HALL CLOSED 

The City of Huntsville City Hall and municipal offices closed at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6.


MUNICIPAL COURTOPERATIONS SUSPENDED

Huntsville Municipal Court suspended operations Thursday, Jan. 6. The court will send out rescheduling information to anyone affected by today’s closure in the coming days.


ROAD CONDITIONS AND ALERTS

Road conditions and closures will be publicized through the City Alert system, local media, and City of Huntsville social media.

Huntsville Police Department, in conjunction with the Emergency Operations Center, monitors local city roadways.

The Alabama Department of Transportation monitors state and federal highways including Highway 231 (Memorial Parkway), Highway 72 (University Drive), Highway 431 (Governor’s Drive), and I-565. For real-time road conditions, the Alabama Department of Transportation encourages individuals to visit algotraffic.com.

Motorists are encouraged to stay off the roads.


WARMING CENTERS

Three warming centers in Huntsville are open to anyone who needs temporary shelter from the elements.

From 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, to 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, the following locations will welcome residents:

  • University Baptist Church, 809 Jordan Lane NW (entrance at the back of the church)
  • The Downtown Rescue Mission, 1400 Evangel Drive NW
  • The Salvation Army, 305 Seminole Drive SW

REPORT DAMAGE

If you see damage impacting public roads or buildings, please submit a service request with Huntsville Connect via mobile app or our website. Need to report a downed power line? Call 911 or Huntsville Utilities at 256-535-1200.


HUNTSVILLE TRANSIT – CLOSED

Huntsville Transit fixed-route bus and paratransit service suspended operations at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6. Friday operations will depend on weather conditions. Customers should monitor the City website for more information.


GARBAGE PICKUP DELAYS POSSIBLE

Due to current weather events, residents will experience delays in garbage collections. Please place your carts out at the regular scheduled time.
