Special Event Criteria for Permit Application Process

To begin the application process for a Special Event Permit, please contact the Police Department’s Special Events team to ensure your event will meet all of the criteria for approval.

This includes:

Compliance with City Ordinances. View City of Huntsville Municipal Code Chapter 23, streets, sidewalks, and public places, and open Article VI, Special Events. For information concerning the special event aircraft landing permits and restrictions, go to Chapter 6, Aviation Article 1.

Please review the Huntsville Municipal Code for deadlines to submit applications for different types of permitted events. 


FORM INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Print the Special Event Application Agreement. The print icon is located on the upper left corner of the page.
  2. Fill out the agreement and have it notarized.
  3. After the Agreement is notarized, navigate back to the Special Event Permits webpage.
  4. Fill out the Special Event Permit Application or Special Event Aircraft Landing Permit.
  5. After filling in the form, click Submit & Sign.
  6. After clicking Submit & Sign, you’ll be prompted to upload a scanned copy of your notarized Special Event Application Agreement.
  7. Create a Signature and sign the page.
  8. Click Finalize and Submit.
  9. You will get a submission notification sent to the email you provided.
  10. The Huntsville Police Department Special Operations Office will contact you about your permit application.

Note: If you do not submit a notarized Special Event Application Agreement with your application, then it will not be considered.


HEALTH & SAFETY

  • If your event will require extra-duty security from Huntsville Police, contact the HPD-Off Duty Police Coordinator at (256) 427-7157.
  • If your event will involve a large gathering of people or large sporting events, medical personnel are recommended to be on site. Contact HEMSI coordinator at (256) 518-2247.
  • If your event will involve the sale or cooking of food on-site, you will need to contact the Madison County Health Department for compliance with regulations and inspections at (256) 533-8746 or (256) 533-8726.

LOCATIONS

  • If your event will be held on, in or around any City park including Big Spring Park, John Hunt Park, or the Jaycee’s Building you will need to contact Parks & Recreation for availability. The Recreation Superintendent is David DeLisser, and he can be reached at (256) 882-7514 or via e-mail at david.delisser@huntsvilleal.gov.
  • For information on events that might take place on the Madison County Courthouse Square property, contact Kevin Jones at (256) 532-3492.
  • For information on zoning restrictions, contact the Zoning Division at (256) 564-8008.

ALCOHOL


RETAIL SALES

  • If your event will include the sale of goods or services or vendors selling items, contact the Clerk Treasurer for a Business License at (256) 427-5082.
  • If your event will involve the sale or cooking of food on-site, you will need to contact the Madison County Health Department for compliance with regulations and inspections at (256) 533-8746 or (256) 533-8726.

CLEAN-UP

  • If your event will have any amount of litter or garbage, or if you are interested in recycling, contact Green Team at (256) 532-5326.

FIREWORKS 

  • If your event involves the use of pyrotechnics or fireworks you will need to contact Fire and Rescue at (256) 427-5334.

NOISE

  • For information on the City of Huntsville, Noise Ordinance compliance contact the Natural Resources Department at (256) 427-5750.
