Histories in the Making: A Passion to Preserve

You are invited to Histories in the Making: A Passion to Preserve on May 30 at 6:00pm at Stovehouse – 3414 Governors Drive SW Huntsville, AL.  This event is the culmination of our 4^th annual #ThisPlaceMattersHsv Preservation Month campaign.  Throughout the month of May, we will recognize the “People of Preservation” to honor those who do the work of preservation and are the very reason heritage is a tangible part of our lives.

Stovehouse is a century-old former factory that developer Danny Yancey is transforming into a village of eclectic restaurants, event and entertainment spaces, shopping, offices and more.  Vintage furniture from the Preservation Company will set the stage.  The Preservation Company, owned by Christa and Jason Butler, is an architectural salvage store located in a restored structure built in 1927 that originally housed the Lincoln Mill Commissary.  We are thrilled to partner with two local business owners who have invested in the adaptive reuse of historic structures.

Histories in the Making will offer an evening of intimate storytelling to celebrate the people who are dedicated to the preservation of Huntsville’s history.  Our featured speakers:  Mrs. Ollye Conley, Kirk and Cindy Giles, Mrs. Debra Jenkins and Dr. John Kvach have a passion for preserving historic architecture and heritage and have significantly impacted our community’s legacy.  Moderator Leslie Walker, Historic Huntsville Foundation Board Chair, will lead the speakers in a Q&A with the audience at the close of the evening.

Admission for this event is free and open to the public.
