Sessions are FREE and promise to be fun and educational as children, with an adult, explore and learn about the great outdoors. Most sessions are best for children ages 5-12 years, but all are welcome.

For all these events, children should wear old comfortable shoes and play clothes that can get a bit dirty.
Don’t forget a bottle of water. Your preferred insect repellent, especially on the lower legs, will help fend off unwanted insect bites. Children must be accompanied by an adult during the sessions.

SCHEDULE:

Tuesday, July 2 – Celebrate! Red, White & Blue Fun – Drop-in for some Independence Day fun! We’ll paint patriotic rocks and use nature’s tools and our imagination to put fireworks on paper. Make sure to wear clothes to get a little dirty.

Thursday, July 4 –Happy Independence Day — Please come enjoy the Preserve with your family. No registration required. 🙂

Tuesday, July 9 – Nature Art – Back by popular demand our watercolor in the trees event and suncatchers! Hint…you might have a whole lot of fun making your masterpieces. We provide everything when you pop-in to let your creativity run wild. Wear clothes that can get dirty!

Thursday, July 11 – Let’s Go Fishing – Bring your rod and reel, or use one of our cane poles! We’ll have the worms. Come ready to practice your catch and release fishing skills at Bar Lake. If you need a bit of help baiting your hook, just ask.

Tuesday, July 16 – Water Festival — Water, water everywhere! Join in the fun with hands-on activities learning all about water – conservation, condensation, evaporation, transpiration, filtration…there is so much more! Huntsville Utilities will have hands on demonstrations and their Pipe Tapping competition team will be here with demos at 10:30, 11:30 and 12:30. Learn about rain barrels and more with Rhonda Britton from the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. It’s going to be fun. We will cool off playing with water, of course, so a change of clothes and towel to dry off with is suggested.

SESSIONS ARE FULL Thursday, July 18 and Saturday, July 20 – River Kids – CONFIRMED REGISTRATION REQUIRED– This program begins at 9:30am and ends at 1:30pm. We’ve partnered with Auburn University and Alabama 4H to add this program. This program is for ages 9 -18 years, only. Wear water clothes and secure shoes that can get wet for a fun time learning how to kayak. The first hour is a mandatory safety class on land, so don’t be late. The remainder is spent in the water. All equipment will be provided. Participants must be able to swim to participate.

Tuesday, July 23 – Bugs — Bring your magnifying glass and maybe a flashlight to investigate the playground for bugs with a fun scavenger hunt and learn about their wonderful world when we read Small Wonders by Jean-Henri Fabre.

Thursday, July 25 — Caterpillars – There will probably be a very hungry one! Learn how these cute, fuzzy critters become butterflies with Tina with Butterflies by Tina. Make a cute craft to add to your summer collection too! If you missed out on this popular one last year, here is your chance.
