The Huntsville Parks & Recreation After-School Program is free and is offered at select community and recreation centers from August – December 2021 for kindergarten – 6th-grade students who attend Huntsville City Schools.

Hours are 2:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. Monday-Friday. The program will not take place on federal holidays or days when Huntsville City Schools are closed.

HOW TO REGISTER

Parents or guardians may choose their preferred recreation center (listed at the bottom of this page) for their child to attend the After-School Program.

APPLY ONLINE for the After-School Program

Parent/Guardian Manual After-School Program 2021-2022

Applicants may also print the online application to fill out and drop off at the selected recreation center or at 2411 9th Avenue, 2nd Floor, 35805. Printed applications can also be faxed to 256-564-8028.

Recreation center staff will call the parent/guardian to confirm the child has been admitted to the program. The After-School Program is first come, first served. The maximum number of children varies by site, depending on the space and staffing.

DAILY ACTIVITIES

The After-School Program includes snacks, homework time, arts, athletics/wellness, recreational outdoor activities and quiet time. Professional recreation staff will be supervising the children. The staff-to-child ratio will be about 1:10.

COVID-19 SAFETY

Staff and children are required to wear masks, unless being physically active. This follows the Huntsville City Schools safety protocols during the pandemic.

DROP OFF/PICK UP

Each child will be checked in upon arrival and must be checked out by an adult listed on the registration form. If someone who is not listed on the form comes to pick up a child, the parent/guardian will be contacted to ensure the individual has permission to take the child.

TRANSPORTATION

Parks & Recreation does not provide transportation from the schools to after-school care; however, some public schools do have busses that drop children off at select centers. Please contact your school to see if this is an option.
