The Healthy Huntsville activity season kicks off May 16th with Super Saturday in Big Spring Park. This year, Super Saturday will feature four free events rolled into one big action-oriented day. The City is closing Church Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to give everyone room to roam and keep participants in motion. Fitness professionals will offer free classes at 9, 10, and 11 a.m. It’s a great time to try out the newest workouts such as BodyCombat, Iron Tribe Fitness & Piloxing, Body Boot Camp, Cross Fit and Zumba, High Intensity Interval Training, Obstacel Ready Boot Camp and WERQ.

Good Beats, Good Eats – a Leadership Huntsville Connect project – is offering live music and healthy cooking demonstrations throughout the day. Mayor Tommy Battle will lead his annual Mayor’s Bike Ride at 10 a.m. Riders will enjoy a family-friendly four mile loop around downtown Huntsville. Once they return, cyclists can join the many activities in the inaugural Bike Fest, hosted by Downtown Huntsville Inc. and See & Be Seen. Test your abilities on wheels with a short-course bicycle drag race, a slow race, kids and adult trike obstacle courses, and a bicycle poker run from downtown to Three Caves.

Following the May 16th kickoff, Healthy Huntsville will offer free exercise classes every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. in Big Spring Park East through August 29. This fall, Healthy Huntsville and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama will host the Mayor’s 100-mile walking challenge. All of the Healthy Huntsville events are posted online at ourvalleyevents.com/healthy-huntsville.

Now in its fourth year, the Healthy Huntsville initiative was created to “reduce obesity by promoting healthy eating and active lifestyles.” The initiative is led by the City of Huntsville, HudsonAlpha, Huntsville City Schools, Huntsville Hospital, and the Madison County Health Department. Healthy Huntsville works to create at least one free activity per week throughout the year.
