Huntsville Utilities is owned by the City of Huntsville, and operates as a separate authority, governed by a board of directors that is appointed by the City Council.

Huntsville Utilities provides electricity, natural gas, and water to residents in the City of Huntsville. Water comes from wells which tap underground aquifers and from the Tennessee River. This water is purified in accordance with rules and regulations of the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
