Legal Department

The Legal Department provides legal counsel to the City Council, the City Mayor and other city officials.

Our goal is to render high quality legal services to the City of Huntsville, a municipal corporation, its City Council, Mayor, Department Heads, Agencies, Boards and, within the scope of their employment, its employees.

We render advisory opinions to the City Council, Mayor, Department Heads, Agencies, and Boards relative to every aspect of City government, municipal legislation, and municipal contracts and agreements as well as represent or supervise the representation of, the City Council, Mayor, Department Heads, Agencies, Boards and, within the scope of their employment, employees relative to litigation and administrative appeals in State and Federal Court, at the trial and appellate levels.

The Legal Department prosecutes violations of all City Ordinances and Criminal Codes brought before the Municipal Court for the City of Huntsville, and on appeal to the Circuit Court of Madison County, Alabama, and represents the City of Huntsville in any appeal of such actions at all higher appellate levels.

We are comprised of the City Attorney, Deputy City Attorney, Assistant City Attorneys, the Prosecution Office, the City of Huntsville Claims Representative, and a complete support staff.
