Animal Services COVID-19 Information

Huntsville Animal Services is open during normal business hours but will continue to operate under more stringent health and safety guidelines. The front door remains locked, however, Shelter staff are on duty and working with the community to adopt and foster pets. Animal visitation will continue in the front of the building and in the two play yards.

Before coming to the Shelter, please call and email us about your pet adoption and foster interests. Visit our website, lost and found pet list and adoptable pet list to see what pets are available. Please note that many pets are in foster homes and not at the Shelter. Look for the Kennel: Foster, which means we will need to connect you to the foster home via their email address.

For found or lost pets contact 256-883-3782. We encourage our Friendly Finder program which has allowed close to 100 healthy pets to go directly back to their owners without being stressed by coming into our Shelter. Injured, sick, or strays unable to be safely confined will need to be brought into the Shelter.

As we restart the normal work of our animal control at Huntsville Animal Services and Madison County Animal Control opens to the public we must work to maintain an even flow of pets into and out of the system.  You have heard repeatedly about flattening the curve.  In animal welfare, it is called Capacity for Care. Our animal control models tend to always be overloaded preventing enough space and resources to save the life of as many pets as possible. With your help, and the tireless help of our partnering rescues, we can continue our life-saving work and help all the pets in our jurisdiction – City of Huntsville and Madison County that need our help.

Our goal is to serve our pets and community in a better way while following safety guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Alabama Department of Public Health.

Huntsville Animal Services will continue to strengthen its compliance with the following statements by the National Animal Care and Control Association (NACA):
