Long-Range & Urban Planning
The City’s Long-Range Planning Division is responsible for comprehensive plans that capture the vision of the community’s future, and outline the steps necessary for implementation. This is accomplished by observing trends in employment, population, and housing in order to determine the future growth and needs of the population. The implementation goal of all plans should provide for an enhanced quality of life for all residents.
THE BIG PICTURE
The BIG Picture Comprehensive Master Plan for the City of Huntsville is comprised of various elements that are updated and adopted on a periodic basis. Some of the various elements include plans for zoning and land use, transportation, open space and Greenway Plan, pedestrian access and sidewalk improvements, urban renewal, and downtown redevelopment, among others.
This comprehensive plan captures the vision of the community’s future, and outlines the steps necessary for implementation. It includes data on trends in economic development, education, employment, population, and housing in order to determine the future growth and needs of the population. DOWNTOWN MASTER PLAN
The Downtown Master Plan presents an in-depth study of the downtown area and identifies feasible implementation strategies for improvements and revitalization of the urban core. It addresses various issues and makes recommendations pertaining to downtown redevelopment and revitalization such as public and private development initiatives, parking requirements, Streetscape Plan, land use planning, and zoning. Cost estimates for implementing the plan are also provided.
