Special Populations
Through the City’s Special Populations services, Parks & Recreation seeks to promote and develop recreational programs for individuals with differing abilities.
PROGRAMS
Parks & Recreation works with several local special needs organizations to help provide recreational opportunities to those that might not normally have access to a facility or equipment. We are currently collaborating with Ability Plus, ARC of Madison County and others to provide their clients with access to recreation facilities. The facilities provide the means for recreational activities, as well as a coordinator to facilitate games and activities.
Any Huntsville resident with special needs is welcome to participate in activities provided by Special Populations. Please note, the staff at our recreation centers are not trained to provide routine medical care, feed individuals or take individuals to the bathroom. Participants must be able to care for themselves or have a guardian present.

Miracle League of North Alabama
The Miracle League’s purpose is to provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities to play Miracle Sports regardless of their abilities and to develop and promote community support. The Miracle League is open to anyone age five and older with any type of disability. All programs are free of charge for players and participants are provided with appropriate equipment and facilities to play.
The Miracle League Complex is located in Brahan Springs Park. The baseball field is equipped with a special rubber surface that covers the entire field. It provides a level playing surface and a safe environment. Players in wheelchairs or other mobility devices navigate around the entire field safely. The complex offers plenty of seating, a family restroom, covered pavilions and a fully accessible playground. For more information visit mlhuntsville.com.
