The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) directs the action of its officers through the establishment of policy, procedure, and rule, as found within police “Directives.”

Directives serve as the foundation for all police operations and reinforced by training and supervision. They provide members with information to act decisively, consistently, and legally. When unusual circumstances are encountered, Directives help members identify the best course of action to follow. Directives further promote confidence and professional contact among members to ensure police members are good stewards of public trust.
