HPD’s Summer Slowdown shows impact with stronger enforcement and safer streets

The Huntsville Police Department’s (HPD) Summer Slowdown traffic safety initiative ended on Tuesday, Aug. 12, with enforcement efforts resulting in more speeding citations and safer roads across the City. From June 9 to Aug. 12, officers issued 4,446 citations and 2,146 warnings to drivers. During the same period in 2024, HPD reported 3,798 citations and 2,324 warnings.
