Mayor Battle Historic Preservation Month News Conference

 Mayor Tommy Battle and preservation leaders will kick off Historic Preservation Month 2021 at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 29, at Alabama Constitution Hall Park in Huntsville.

This year’s theme, Saving Places Huntsville, will bring special attention to historic and culturally significant places and tourist destinations adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The City will use a distinctive hashtag, #SavingPlacesHSV, as part of the month-long campaign.

Highlighted attractions include the Heritage Room at the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library, H.C. Blake Art & History Center, U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Burritt on the Mountain, Lowry House and Weeden House, among others. Each week, the City will feature a different place via Facebook Live and City Blog.

Events coinciding with Historic Preservation Month will include Five Points Porch Fest (May 8), the unveiling of a historic marker at the YMCA on Lincoln Street (May 19) and the Historic Huntsville Foundation Preservation Awards (May 22).
