Artwork by Huntsville’s talented artists can be found throughout the City, but the downtown branch of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL) is shining a light on budding young talent.

From Saturday, April 27 through Friday, May 3, HMCPL will display artwork created by participants of Huntsville Parks & Recreation’s Male Mentorship Program. The works, comprised of three 48 inch-by-60-inch pieces, can be found in the youth area on the first floor.

HMCPL Deputy Director Connie Chow said the library is excited to partner with Huntsville Parks & Recreation on the project.

“We are honored to showcase creations by these talented artists and help to connect a wider community with the meaningful mission of this mentorship program,” Chow said.

The initiative to create and display the mentees’ artwork was led by artist and former Alabama A&M tennis standout Jamal “Fresko” Turner and Curtis Jeter, a Recreation Leader for Huntsville Parks & Recreation. Turner’s unique artwork graces the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) Fitness Court® public art installation at Legacy Park. Jeter, a former UAB football standout, is also a talented artist.

“Our mentors and mentees share a passion for athletics and the arts, which fuels our commitment to inspire and empower the next generation,” said Huntsville Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett. “These collaborations underscore the transformative power of mentorship and instill confidence and creativity in young minds.”
