General Services & Fleet Services Department

The General Services and Fleet Services departments strive to keep City facilities, vehicles and equipment safe and attractive for City employees, residents and Huntsville-area visitors. This enhances the pride of City employees, citizens and reflects the nature and character of our community to visitors.

The General Services Department consists of several divisions in different locations throughout the City. The Facilities Projects Division manages new construction, additions, and alterations of City-owned buildings and parks. The Maintenance Division oversees the maintenance and janitorial services of City-owned structures and properties. The Fleet Services Division is responsible for the fleet purchases, maintenance and repairs of the City’s fleet.


FACILITIES PROJECTS

The General Services Facilities Projects office manages new construction, alterations and additions on City-owned facilities. The Facilities Projects office is staffed with an architect, civil engineer, construction project managers and office staff. The office works closely with other City departments, design professionals and the public to simplify construction projects for City-owned buildings and parks. The office is also involved in managing the design, estimating and construction of the City’s building and park projects.

The Facilities Projects office is on the first floor of 2411 9th Ave., Huntsville, AL 35805.


FACILITIES MAINTENANCE 

The General Services Facilities Maintenance Division provides maintenance and janitorial services for over 200 City-owned buildings/structures. In-house personnel respond to the daily needs of the buildings and do preventive maintenance on all major systems, though some work requires contracts with outside vendors.

Responsibilities include all facets of facility maintenance/management, including HVAC, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and access controls, janitorial and other services related to maintenance and general building repairs. Maintenance on athletic and passive parks includes lighting, fencing, back stops, dugouts, playground equipment, picnic tables, etc.

Administrative staff manages day-to-day operations as well as work orders, invoices, periodic contracts, property insurance and utilities for City-owned facilities and parks.

FLEET MANAGEMENT 

The Fleet Management Division’s goal is to furnish City departments with properly equipped and well-maintained vehicles and equipment.

The responsibilities of the division include the purchase, fueling, repair and maintenance of City-owned vehicles and equipment, including automated garbage trucks, emergency response vehicles and equipment used for construction and landscaping.

The Fleet Management Facility is at 2739 Johnson Road SW, Huntsville, AL 35805.
