Expect stoppages for girders on U.S. 231 South – Sept. 25 and Sept. 27

Published on September 25, 2017

The Alabama Department of Transportation advises motorists to expect a lane closure and traffic stoppages on the northbound South Memorial Parkway (U.S. 231/Alabama 53) service road tonight (Monday, Sept. 25) from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for placement of bridge girders on the overpass at Byrd Spring Road.

On Wednesday, Sept. 27, there will be a single-lane closure from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. and stoppages on the northbound service road at Logan Drive and Lily Flagg Road for placement of girders on the overpass at that intersection.

On each of these nights, the intersection under the overpass will be closed to through and left-turning traffic on the cross street and left-turning traffic on both service roads. Stoppages of all northbound traffic will be necessary during unloading and placement of girders.

Waiting traffic will be allowed to clear between stops.
