This project will widen and realign approximately one mile of Church Street from a two-lane road into 5 and 4 lanes, with bike lanes and sidewalks, beginning at Monroe Street in downtown Huntsville and continuing north to Pratt Avenue at Hundley Street. The Church Street project will also realign Pratt Avenue to straighten out the “S” curve. Sidewalks are included in this road project, designed to enhance and improve this major roadway into the downtown area.

The contractor will have periodic road closures along Church Street between Monroe Street and Wheeler Avenue during the next three months as work progresses along Church Street. Road closures may occur for days or weeks depending on the work needed.

The old roadbed, along Church and Pratt, will be demolished in the near future. New connections at Hundley Drive have begun. The old bridge on Pratt has been demolished and grading work is underway in the creek in this area.  Utility conflicts on Church and Pratt are being addressed.

The contractor has almost completed the reconstruction of the north side of Church Street. Also the Hundley/Pratt intersection will soon be open to traffic in all directions. Upon completion of all new connections, crews will mill, install the final asphalt layer, and install permanent traffic striping, signage and legends for the entire project limits. The end result will be five lanes for traffic, along with bike lanes and sidewalks.

The current project completion date is anticipated to be end of December 2021.
