SUMMARY

This is an Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT)-led project that is part of the Restore Our Roads initiative. It consists of a new overpass at Mastin Lake Road and approximately 1.73 miles of roadway improvements along North Parkway to Winchester Road. The scope includes a grade separation (where two or more roads meet or cross) and a reduction in congestion between Sparkman Drive and Winchester Road. The project will also have an additional 1.5 miles of access improvements between Stallworth Drive and Winchester Road, an overpass at Mastin Lake Road and sidewalks along each side of the service roads.

STATUS

Contractor Rogers Group is set to start work in June 2023. Initially, the contractor will install temporary barriers along the outer (east) side of the northbound roadway, reducing it to two lanes for northbound traffic from Mastin Lake Road to the Stallworth Road entrance to Alabama A&M University.

During the first phase of the project, traffic will be shifted to the inside lanes of the existing roadway for construction of northbound and southbound service roads. During the second phase, traffic will be shifted to the newly-constructed service roads while the overpass and mainline are constructed in the center.

The project is anticipated to take more than three years to complete. Motorists should expect delays and drive with caution in the 2-mile work zone.
