Enjoy the outdoors at Hays Nature Preserve during Fall Break! Join us at the pavilion on the natural playground from 10am-12pm on Monday, October 3 through Wednesday, October 5. Drop in during the time to enjoy a different animal themed craft and a self-led scavenger hunt each day! There will also be a Nature Art Poster Contest for school aged children in K-12. Join Green Team and Land Trust of North Alabama at Wade Mountain (6998 Pulaski Pike NW #6946) to plant a tree on Saturday, October 29. Tree planting will take place from 9am to 12:00pm. No experience is needed. All ages are welcome. You can drop in any time during the event and are not required to stay the full event. All supplies will be provided. You don’t have to trash that live Christmas tree after the holidays. Operation Christmas Cleanup will recycle your “undressed” tree along with plain cardboard boxes, batteries and old electronics at no cost to you. City of Huntsville municipal offices will close Monday, Jan. 16, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This includes Animal Services, Parks & Recreation, Public Transit and Municipal Court. Residential curbside collection will be delayed by one day the week of Jan. 16-20. Residents should leave carts at the curb until they are collected. Essential police and fire personnel will remain on duty throughout the holiday.
