Get an inside look at HPD during first-of-its-kind career event

A career with the Huntsville Police Department (HPD) involves more than what you see on patrol, and HPD is giving prospective applicants and their families a chance to see that firsthand.
“Inside HPD: Career Opportunities” will take place Saturday, Nov. 7 at 9 a.m. at the Huntsville Public Safety Training Academy, 5365 Triana Blvd. SW.
Attendees can meet officers from across the department, learn about their day-to-day responsibilities, ask questions and get the facts about a career in law enforcement.
“There’s more to a career with HPD than many people realize,” HPD Recruiter James Pratt said. “We want to give people the chance to meet our officers, see the work they do and get a better understanding of what a career here can look like.”
The event will go beyond conversation. Attendees can get an up-close look at equipment and resources used by specialized units, including SWAT, Crisis Negotiation and Response Team, Bomb Unit robots and equipment and K-9. DUI enforcement displays and driving instructors on the training pad will offer additional insight into the department’s work.
Applications for HPD’s 77th Academy Session will close Friday, Feb. 12, 2027, at 6 p.m.
“You might be surprised by the opportunities available at HPD and the different backgrounds and experiences that can make someone a good fit,” Pratt said. “We want people to come out, ask questions and see for themselves what a career with HPD could look like.”
