Rapid Access Systems
Huntsville Fire & Rescue is pleased to offer businesses the opportunity to participate in two programs designed to better protect life and property. These secure and reliable systems allow firefighters to gain quick entry into a commercial building and to lock and unlock Fire Department Connection (FDC) caps to help them safely do their job at a critical time.
- The Electric Rapid Access System utilizes a secure electronic key vault to give firefighters access into a closed building if a fire alarm triggers after normal business hours. Gaining access into a building after business hours can require a forced entry, which increases the emergency response time and poses additional safety risks to firefighters along with unexpected costs to the business owner.
- The Fire Department Connection (FDC) locking cap, helps protect automatic fire sprinkler system connections from vandalism or debris. This ensures firefighters are able to get supplemental water to a building when they need it. Unprotected FDC caps, the access point for firefighters to get supplemental water to a building, can hamper safety efforts and response times.
