Public Transportation

The goal of the Public Transportation Division is to provide adequate and efficient community transportation services for the general public, senior citizens, physically challenged citizens, commuters, and individuals with limited transportation alternatives.


SHUTTLE BUS SYSTEM

Operates Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on nine routes covering more than 175 miles of city streets each hour of service.

UAH CAMPUS ROUTE 

On Friday evenings a UAH Campus Route runs through the campus housing area with main stops at the Wal-Mart Supercenter, Target and Bridge Street Town Center. Campus Shuttle runs most Friday evenings from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Please call for a schedule at (256) 427-6811.

In addition to being available from Bus Drivers on all Buses, complete system maps and schedules are distributed at 15 facilities.
Service animals are welcome on all City of Huntsville public transit vehicles.

HANDI-RIDE

The City of Huntsville operates ADA Paratransit Service for individuals with disabilities who because of their disability are unable to use the fixed route buses. This specialized, door-to-door, demand-response paratransit service is available Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. ADA Paratransit service application and advanced reservations by 5pm the day before are required to schedule this service. The 14 vehicles are radio dispatched and ADA accessible. Call (256) 427-6811. The TDD number for the hearing impaired is 1-800-548-2547 (voice) and 1-800-548-2546 (TTY).

COMMUTESMART HUNTSVILLE 

CommuteSmart Huntsville, also commonly referred to as RideShare, is a computerized ridesharing service for working commuters. CommuteSmart offers free online ridematching, vanpool services, and employer and commuter services. To sign up for any of the services all you have to do is register on the CommuteSmart website.
