Community Watch
The Huntsville Police Department launched its first Community Watch in 1979, and citizen involvement has been the driving force behind the program’s success. Today, there are over 150 active watch groups, ranging in size from 25 members to more than 800 households, with over 12,000 households participating in efforts to make their neighborhoods safer places to live, work and play.
Supporting the Crime Prevention Program is the Huntsville Community Watch Association (HCWA), a network of coordinators and leaders from all active watch groups. Working alongside HPD’s Community Relations Officers, HCWA helps establish new Community Watch groups and provides ongoing guidance for their daily operations, ensuring neighborhoods remain engaged, informed and secure.
