Huntsville Police remind residents to secure vehicles and valuables

Huntsville Police are encouraging residents to take simple precautions after noticing an uptick in car break-ins and stolen items. From January through June 2025, there were 435 reported car break-ins, compared to 385 during the same period in 2024. Between April and June, 46 firearms were reported stolen from vehicles. The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has wrapped up its participation in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which ran Aug. 15 through Sept. 2. The Huntsville Police Department’s (HPD) Summer Slowdown traffic safety initiative ended on Tuesday, Aug. 12, with enforcement efforts resulting in more speeding citations and safer roads across the City.
