The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has concluded its investigation into a fatal shooting in the 6200 block of Torok Circle.

On Monday, July 27, around 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a reported shooting and found Patrick Erin Blood, 29, of Huntsville, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts, Blood died from his injuries.

The man who fired the gun remained at the scene and was detained while HPD’s Major Crimes Unit investigated the shooting.

Investigators determined a physical altercation occurred, during which the other individual discharged a firearm in self-defense, striking Blood.

The findings were presented to the Madison County District Attorney’s Office, which agreed with that determination. No criminal charges will be filed.
