The roadway construction contract was signed by ALDOT in September 2023. The contract was awarded to the low bidder, Rogers Group Inc. The bridge work is completed, and the east side of the project was reopened to traffic in May 2026. Crews continue to work landscaping behind the curbs from Old Jim Williams to Wall Triana and finish the final paving surface shortly thereafter with striping and signage to complete the entire east side. Contractor has moved to the west side of Wall Triana and will be upgrading the existing railroad crossing to accommodate the new roadway. Remaining work on the west side will require additional lane shifts and road closures to complete all roadwork between Wall Triana Highway and Laracy Drive. Anticipated completion for the entire project is late 2026, with weather permitting.

The City of Huntsville awarded a contract to Wiregrass Construction Company on Nov. 2, 2023, to construct the Northern Bypass. Construction began in mid-November 2023. This project includes 1 mile of road improvements along U.S. 231 (Memorial Parkway) to accommodate the new intersection. Traffic was shifted to the new intersection in July of 2025, and a section of the new road was opened to traffic, between Memorial Parkway and Derwent Lane, in December 2025. Progress on the project has slowed as the contractor works through difficult site conditions at the west end of the project near Northgate Drive. Construction is approximately 70% complete with approximately 100 working days remaining on the contract duration, which is dependent upon weather and site conditions as work progresses.

A corridor study is now underway. Environmental Document has been completed. Funding has been allocated for design of Phase 1 to begin. Phase 1 consists of improvements on the south side of Interstate 565 with a direct connection from Madison Boulevard to Redstone Gateway. This will also lengthen the weaving distance between Research Park Boulevard (SR 255) and Madison Boulevard along Interstate 565. Redstone Arsenal will be providing the land needed to construct the improvements. We anticipate construction to begin in late 2027.
