20th Annual Youth Summer Camp

Published on June 22, 2018

The Huntsville Police Department’s School Resource Officer Unit will be hosting the 20th Annual Youth Summer Camp next Monday through Friday, June 25-29, 2018.  The Youth Summer Camp will take place at Morris P-8 School. The camp is an opportunity to introduce elementary grade students to School Resource Officers with the goal of them getting acquainted with the SRO’s that they’ll be seeing every day.  In turn, this helps make the SRO’s more approachable during the school year and the students become a valuable resource for the officers in their efforts to keep schools safe and minimize the number of disruptions during the school day.

This year’s camp will include a day trip to the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center as well as a day at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens, among other fun activities.

Beginning in 1998, the Youth Summer Camp was designed to reward 4th and 5th grade students within the Huntsville City Schools System who performed well in the area of academics, behavior and citizenship.  Camp participants are nominated by their school principals and counselors.
