Your Voice Counts: Public Invited to Provide Feedback on John Hunt Park Skatepark

The community is encouraged to provide feedback on the future of John Hunt Park Skatepark during the second Skatepark Design Public Input Meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 17.

The two-hour interactive broadcast will be available for streaming on https://bit.ly/3g02Va9. Skateboard enthusiasts and the greater Huntsville community are invited to attend the free online event.

Team Pain Skateparks, the firm overseeing the project, will present feedback the public provided during the first input meeting on April 20. The upcoming meeting will help the public understand the current direction and provide additional comments so Team Pain can begin the design process of the future skatepark.

“Our goal is to develop a well-rounded skatepark incorporating modern street-style and transition features,” said Team Pain President and Owner Tim Payne. “We also want to recreate some of the unique elements that were found in Huntsville’s Get-A-Way Skatepark built in the late 1970s.”

The innovative skatepark will be built across three acres between Kids Space and the Championship Soccer Fields at John Hunt Park in Huntsville. The tentative opening date for the new outdoor venue is late summer 2022.

The City is working with the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville and the Skatepark Project, a charity of skateboarding legend, Tony Hawk, to help fund the project. An anonymous donor is providing $1 million toward construction of the venue.
