The City Council approved the annexation of 572.48 acres in north Huntsville at Thursday’s Council meeting.
The land is north of Bob Wade Lane and bisected by Mt. Lebanon Road. The Sam and Rosa Harris Family Farm LLC submitted the request for annexation.
The land is expected to be developed through a master planning process for residential and commercial development.
The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at its Aug. 26 meeting regarding zoning for the property. More than 500 acres has been proposed for Residence 2 or Residence 2-B while 65 acres is seeking Highway Business C-4 zoning.
Pending approval by the Planning Commission, the zoning requests will be considered by City Council.
The annexation aligns with the City’s growth corridor in north Huntsville. The annexation would also help support and foster new retail development opportunities along the Northern Bypass.
