City purchases land adjacent to Maple Hill Cemetery as part of future expansion plans

The City entered into a purchase and sale agreement with DBP, LLC to acquire 1.1 acres on the east side of Maple Hill Cemetery located at 1321 McClung Ave. SE. The land will be part of the cemetery’s future expansion plans which are currently in development.

The City-owned cemetery, established in 1818, was recognized by the Alabama Historical Association in 1962. Five former U.S. senators as well as five Alabama governors have been buried at Maple Hill.
