Huntsville Police Department Major Crimes Investigators have charged four Anniston men with Murder and Robbery following a shooting on Broadmeadow Lane last night.

Around 9:25 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle in the 3100 block of Gayhart Drive.  Approximately five minutes later officers stopped the vehicle, a white Ford Crown Victoria, on Gayhart Drive.  While investigating the suspicious vehicle, officers heard gunshots coming from the area of Broadmeadow Lane, and the 911 Center received a call of a shooting in the 4700 block of Broadmeadow Lane.  Officers responded and found one male dead in the back yard with multiple gunshot wounds.  A short time later another male was taken into custody walking on Grizzard Road with a minor gunshot wound to the leg.

Initial reports were that two men forcibly entered the home in a robbery attempt.  It was later determined to be drug related.  All of the offenders are from Anniston, and four of them had driven to Huntsville earlier in the day to pick up the fifth offender.  That man had arrived in Huntsville earlier in the day after being released from Prison.  The men went to the Broadmeadow Lane home armed with guns in an attempt to take drugs.  Two of them forced their way into the home and an altercation ensued which resulted in multiple shots being fired.  One of the offenders was shot and died in the backyard.  The other offender, Antonio Thompson, was shot in the leg and fled the area, but was later stopped by officers on Grizzard Road.  The three men in the suspicious Crown Victoria had dropped the men off and were waiting on them when they were stopped by the officers.

Antonio Thompson, 20 years old of Anniston, Jaleel McElderry, 20 years old of Anniston, Robert Thorton, 20 years old of Anniston, and Quindarious Sterling, 21 years old of Anniston, have all been charged with Murder and Robbery and are being held in the Madison County jail.  Next-of-kin has not been notified for the offender who was killed, but he and Thorton were out on bond for Murder charges in Etowah County.
