A ceremony was held at the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering, attended by City leaders, HPD’s Command Staff, Academy Training Advisors and the officers’ families and friends.

HPD Chief Kirk Giles commended the class for the determination and integrity they demonstrated throughout the Academy.

“All of us who wear this badge have a responsibility to not only carry the title of police officer, but to be worthy of it,” Chief Giles said. “Now, every day, you must earn the respect of your fellow officers as well as the citizens of Huntsville.”

Mayor Tommy Battle offered strong support for HPD and the new officers stepping into service.

“Our residents have confidence in their police officers because of the way HPD serves this city: with professionalism, compassion and an unwavering commitment to public safety,” Mayor Battle said. “That trust, and our consistently low crime rates, are the direct result of the work our officers do every single day. You now join that legacy.”

The 11 graduates will now enter the Field Training Officer phase, where they will spend 14 weeks applying what they learned in the Academy in real-life situations.
