Huntsville approves funding for new affordable housing on Kildare Street

Published on January 22, 2026

The City has taken another step forward in expanding homeownership opportunities by authorizing two agreements with Family Services Center, Inc. (FSC), a certified Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO), to construct affordable homes in District 2.

The agreements will allow FSC to use federal HOME Investment Partnerships Program funds to build two three-bedroom homes on Kildare Street. Both projects will be funded with HOME funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and support the City’s ongoing efforts to increase access to safe, affordable housing for income-qualified families.

Under the terms of the agreements, FSC will manage all aspects of construction and the eventual sale of the homes to income-qualified households, with long-term federal affordability requirements in place.

In 2025, the City approved a resolution with FSC to construct affordable housing on Olson Street. These investments continue Huntsville’s strong partnership with local nonprofit housing developers to promote stable neighborhoods and help more families achieve the dream of homeownership.
