Huntsville-Madison County Public Library adds 50 new local albums to BLAST streaming platform

The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library has expanded its BLAST music streaming platform with 50 new albums from local artists across north Alabama, further strengthening the city’s growing music ecosystem.

The newest collection, available Dec. 15, marks the seventh addition to BLAST since its launch in August 2021.

The platform now features music from 245 artists and 279 albums, representing a wide range of genres including metal, Afrobeats, punk, spiritual, hip-hop, R&B, blues, folk and more.

Huntsville Music Officer Matt Mandrella said the continued growth of BLAST reflects the strength and diversity of the region’s creative community.

“BLAST is a powerful example of how our public institutions are supporting local artists and showcasing their original work to more people,” Mandrella said. “This platform celebrates the depth of talent in North Alabama and reinforces Huntsville’s commitment to investing in our local music ecosystem.”

BLAST Music allows listeners to stream local music anywhere with an internet connection, with no library card or sign-in required.

Participating artists retain full rights to their work and receive an honorarium for their contributions, supported by the Marguerite Cartwright Hawthorne Endowment and the Huntsville Music Office.

“BLAST is an excellent way to get acquainted with music and artists from right here in Huntsville and across North Alabama,” said Annie Phillips, Librarian, Acquisitions & Collection Development with the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library. “With our 2025 class, we’re excited to feature more additions of R&B, hip-hop and inspirational genres, as well as new Shoals-based blues and folk acts, and much more.”
