Huntsville Parks & Recreation unwraps holiday happenings

Parks & Recreation is spreading holiday cheer with a full month of themed events across the city. The event schedule includes a variety of seasonal activities for all ages to celebrate the magic of the holidays.
The third annual Big Spring Jingle is Friday, Dec. 19, from 4-8 p.m. in Big Spring Park. Festivities will include a DJ dance party, food trucks, crafts, light-up gifts for kids and more. Santa is bringing flurries from the North Pole and is excited to take photos with all his friends.
Other events include:
- Toys for Tots Drive: Nov. 24-Dec 14, Johnson Legacy Center, drop off unwrapped toys or books during regular operating hours
- Jingle & Mingle Wreath Workshop: Friday, Dec. 5, 5-8 p.m., $10 per participant, ages 18+, Cavalry Hill Community Center
- Deck the Halls: Saturday, Dec. 6, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., free, ages 5+, Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center
- Santa’s Senior Shindig: Thursday, Dec. 11, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., free, ages 50+, Mark Russell Recreation Center
- Paddles & Platters Holiday Pickleball Bash: Friday, Dec. 12, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., free, ages 50+, Brahan Spring Recreation Center
- Holiday Parents Night Out: Friday, Dec. 12, 5-8 p.m., free, ages 6-12, Fern Bell Recreation Center, Register here by Monday, Dec. 8
- Shining Stars Adaptive Talent Show: Friday, Dec. 12, 6-8 p.m., free, ages 6+, Jaycee Community Building in John Hunt Park
- Jingle Jammies Holiday Pajama Party: Saturday, Dec. 13, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., free, ages 5+, Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center
- Holly Jolly Movie Night: Friday, Dec. 19, 5:30-7:30 p.m., free, all ages, Cavalry Hill Community Center
- Holiday Art Clinic: Saturday, Dec. 20, 8:30 a.m. to noon, $10 per participant, ages 6-12, Optimist Recreation Center
- Jingle Jam: Saturday, Dec. 20, 4-7 p.m., free, all ages, Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center
- Santa’s Lego Workshop: Monday, Dec. 22, 12-1:30 p.m., free, ages 6-12, Challenger Gymnasium
“The holidays are a special time for many people,” said Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett. “We’ve got a lot of really great opportunities this year for residents and families to get involved and have some holiday fun.”
