Huntsville Police celebrate opening of Crime Scene and Evidence Warehouse Complex

The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) opened its new Crime Scene and Evidence Warehouse Complex at a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking a major milestone in the City’s ongoing commitment to public safety and innovation.

The $9.6 million facility at 616 Wheeler Ave. NW brings HPD’s Crime Scene Investigators and Digital Forensics teams under one roof. The complex includes a 14,000-square-foot main building with labs and processing areas, and a 13,500-square-foot climate-controlled warehouse for evidence and vehicle storage.

“This project has been years in the making, and it marks a major step forward in how we serve and protect our City,” said HPD Chief Kirk Giles. “This complex is more than just a building – it’s a game-changer for how we investigate and solve crimes.”

Mayor Tommy Battle said the investment underscores Huntsville’s commitment to innovation and community trust.

“Public safety is the foundation of a thriving City,” said Mayor Battle. “This new complex strengthens that foundation by giving our police department the space and technology to meet that challenge and continue delivering the highest standard of public service.”

HPD personnel will begin moving equipment and operations into the new building, preparing to fully utilize the facility to enhance investigative capabilities, streamline operations and maintain the highest standards of evidence integrity.
