Huntsville Police Department Fallen Officers Memorial Service

Published on May 15, 2017

The Huntsville Police Department will be holding a memorial service May 18 at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Fallen Officers Memorial at 815 Wheeler Avenue.  The service will be to remember and honor all Huntsville Police Officers and their families who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the community.  The Huntsville Police Department has lost ten officers in the line of duty dating back to 1883.

The Memorial Service is free and open to the public.  Anyone wishing to attend the service should use the parking lots across the street from 815 Wheeler Avenue.

The Fallen Officers Memorial was erected and dedicated in 2011 thanks to the efforts of the Huntsville Police Citizens Foundation.  The foundation is a non-profit organization that not only funded the building of the Memorial, but also raises funds to assist families in the event an officer is killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.  Leslie Freeman, widow of Officer Eric Freeman, recently took on the voluntary role of Program Director for the Huntsville Police Citizens Foundation.  She plans to increase their fundraising efforts through the sale of Memorial bricks and various other fundraisers throughout the community.
