Founded on the principles of Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for All Mankind, the chapter saw Adopt-a-Spot as a natural extension of their mission. “Stewardship of the environment aligns perfectly with our values,” Casmere H. Taylor, chapter vice president said. “This partnership allows us to give back directly to our city while demonstrating unity and civic pride through visible, hands-on service.”

Since joining the program in 2023, the chapter has maintained Executive Drive and Rick Cooper Memorial Park with a steady monthly rotation of volunteers. With approximately 170 members, their team supports litter collection, light landscaping and general site upkeep. They often involve local youth and community partners, reinforcing their belief that environmental care is a shared responsibility.

Huntsville holds a special place for the chapter. Many members are lifelong residents, business owners, educators, veterans and public servants. “Our fraternal connection to Huntsville is personal and enduring,” the group shared. “It’s where we live, work and strive to make a difference every day.”

Service is deeply embedded in the fraternity’s identity. Through education, mentorship, civic engagement and community improvement, the Delta Theta Lambda Chapter continues Alpha Phi Alpha’s national mission: First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All. Their Adopt-a-Spot volunteers represent all stages of life, from students to retirees, bound by a shared commitment to strengthen the community through small acts of care.

For those considering volunteer work but unsure where to begin, the chapter offers simple advice: “Start small, start local – but most importantly, start. Programs like the Green Team offer immediate impact and visible results. Service not only strengthens your community; it strengthens you.”

The chapter also expressed gratitude for the City’s support: “The Green Team’s leadership makes it possible for organizations like ours to contribute meaningfully to Huntsville’s quality of life. For us, service is more than an act, it’s a way of life.”

The City of Huntsville is proud to recognize the Delta Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha for helping keep our community beautiful, one spot at a time.
