Work will begin soon on the first phase of the Pedestrian Access & Redevelopment Corridor project after the City awarded a contract to Lambert Contracting LLC for channel improvements on Pinhook Creek consisting of channel widening and stream restoration features.
The scope of the contract includes improvements to approximately 3,200 linear feet of Pinhook Creek for flood mitigation from Holmes Avenue to Memorial Parkway. The project includes about 100,000 cubic yards of excavation and about 90,000 square feet of retaining walls.
The decorative retaining walls will be on the east side of the channel while the bank on the west side of the channel will be excavated to create a low flow channel promoting stream restoration using seawalls and rock slabs to create pools for continuous aquatic habitat. This area will become part of the project’s lower greenway network.
The City also approved an engineering design services contract with GTEC LLC for structural foundations for the three precast pedestrian bridges across Pinhook Creek that is also part of the PARC project. The bridges will be built in the fourth and final phase of the project.
