This is information on two house fires that occurred in the city of Huntsville yesterday.

The first fire was at 13925 Wyandotte Drive. Upon arrival, fire units reported smoke coming from the house. Crews used forced entry through the front door to gain access. Upon entering the house, firefighters encountered heavy smoke conditions. Firefighters made their way through the home and found fire in the bedroom of the residence. A body was found in the bedroom during the extinguishment of the fire. The cause of the fire is an ongoing joint investigation by HFR and HPD. As more information progresses, a press notice will be distributed.

The second fire was at 4239 Teejay Drive. Crews found heavy fire in the kitchen and attic area above the kitchen. Firefighters rapidly extinguished the blaze. All electricity and water was shut-off from the home. Three adults were displaced and are currently residing with other family members. Unattended cooking is the cause of the fire.

This is a reminder to residents that the number one cause of house fires in Huntsville and the nation is unattended cooking and can be stopped. Under no circumstances, leave anything unattended while cooking.
