Huntsville residents have a voice in HPD’s reaccreditation
Published on
Huntsville residents have an opportunity to help shape the future of policing in their community by sharing feedback with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) as the Huntsville Police Department (HPD) pursues reaccreditation.
Residents can submit comments through CALEA’s online public comment portal, which allows members of the community to provide feedback on HPD’s delivery of public safety services, community engagement, professionalism and overall performance. Comments may include both commendations and concerns and will be reviewed by CALEA as part of its evaluation of HPD.
HPD first earned CALEA accreditation in 1996 and has maintained its accredited status for 30 years. CALEA accreditation recognizes law enforcement agencies that demonstrate compliance with rigorous, nationally recognized standards for policies, procedures, training, operations and service delivery.
“Serving this community is a responsibility we take seriously, and we want to hear from the people we serve,” HPD Chief Kirk Giles said. “This process gives residents an opportunity to share their experiences with HPD directly with CALEA. Whether it’s a positive experience or an area where we can do better, that feedback matters and helps us continue to improve.”
The reaccreditation process provides an independent review of HPD’s policies, practices and operations and helps ensure the department continues to meet established standards for professional and effective law enforcement services.
